Journey into Pumpfoiling

What attracted you to pumpfoiling in the first place?
Ride whenever I want and not depending of the wind or waves.

Can you describe your first experience with pumpfoiling?

How long did it take you to become proficient?
3 days for 5 or 6 pumps. A month for 30 sec pump.

What was the biggest challenge you faced when learning to pumpfoil?
Land my foot at the right place constantly.

Have you ever had any accidents or close calls?

What advice would you give to beginners?
Find High dock, it’s easier.

Passion and Motivation

What keeps you going in the sport?
Freedom feeling.

Do you have any specific goals or milestones you’re aiming for?
Ride more waves and do more downwind.

Cross-Training and Other Interests

Are you involved in any other water sports or activities?
I was kite foiling before, but I stop since I started pump foiling.

How do other sports or activities complement your pumpfoiling?
skateboarding and kite foiling helped for sure. But everybody start from 0 when you try to dockstart. It’s a unique experience.

Gear and Equipment

Can you talk about your gear? What do you recommend for beginners?
I recommend AXIS foil, 82 cm aluminium mast with advance red short fuselage, PNG 1300 (or 1150) and stab 400 progressive… This is a very good setup you will keep for at least 2 years, because when you’re not a beginner anymore, you’ll keep using it to catch waves or do freestyle.

How important is the role of technology in pumpfoiling?
Very important, each year we have more gear, to go faster or to use less energy to pump.

Community and Lifestyle

How has pumpfoiling impacted your lifestyle?
I pump foil everyday.

Are you part of a community or group that shares your passion?
Yes, we are 30 people around Geneva, and I already meet people from a lot of different places in Switzerland.

What’s next for you in the world of pumpfoiling?
Use less energy while pumping to reach more places easily.

Any shoutouts or people you’d like to thank?
Thanks to Devon (WakeThief), because of him I had bought quickly enough one of the best setup on the market. Thanks to AXIS to make so much improvement on all of their products.
