Introduction
Can you please introduce yourself and tell us a little about your background?
My name is Christophe Meletiou from Cyprus, I am 61 years young and work as a sailmaker. My watersports history , I started Windsurfing in the 70’s, transitioned to Kitesurfing late 90’s, kitefoiling since 2005, Wingfoiling in 2020, and started dock starting at the beginning of this year.
How did you first get introduced to pumpfoiling?
I live on an island where nobody dock starts. I learned alone by watching YouTube.
Journey into Pumpfoiling
What attracted you to pumpfoiling in the first place?
The challenge and the simplicity.
Can you describe your first experience with pumpfoiling?
Mainly while wing foiling but also on the wake of a boat.
How long did it take you to become proficient?
Thanks to wing foiling, I could pump efficiently very fast.
Challenges
What was the biggest challenge you faced when learning to pumpfoil?
The actual start from the dock. It is now my favored part.
Have you ever had any accidents or close calls?
Just minor cuts.
What advice would you give to beginners?
If you can, find someone to learn with, it will be much easier.
Passion and Motivation
What keeps you going in the sport?
I like learning new skills and want to become as good as possible.
Do you have any specific goals or milestones you’re aiming for?
I want to be able to catch and connect small waves starting from a dock or ladder.
Cross-Training and Other Interests
Are you involved in any other water sports or activities?
At present only wing foiling and surf foiling.
How do other sports or activities complement your pumpfoiling?
Pump foiling is a mixture of technique and endurance. I also find these in cycling and skateboarding.
Gear and Equipment
Can you talk about your gear? What do you recommend for beginners?
Riding a brand new F-One Jam 1900 at present and before that an Axis PNG 1150 and F-One Phantom 1680. I think it was a very good transition going from AR 6 to 8 and now 10.
How important is the role of technology in pumpfoiling?
Most important is choosing the right equipment for your weight , level and commitment.

How has pumpfoiling impacted your lifestyle?
No real change, I just know that with hard work almost anything is possible.

What’s next for you in the world of pumpfoiling?
I know maximum endurance is not my main attraction. I guess just getting better and more consistent in every aspect.
